Research Assistance Needed

November 9, 2011 - As Veterans Day approaches I've been spending some extra time researching Sebago shipmates, especially the plank owners. It's rewarding to cross the wake of an old shipmate, even though many times the only evidence found is a grave site listing or an old obituary. Sometimes there are enough clues to learn that one of our own made his mark in the civilian world and became a successful business owner, educator, or civic leader. Very often I learn that upon leaving the Coast Guard our shipmates simply led the life of an average civilian - albeit with the slight swagger that comes from a few nautical miles underway aboard a 255' cutter.

I'm asking any of you that enjoy this sort of third party geneaology to take a look at the ships muster list. When you spot a shipmate whose status is unknown, please take a few moments and try to research him. I'm not a Facebook kind of guy and I'm not going to join just to take a random stab that one of our old shipmates IS ... but you might be. Why not take a moment to track down one of the geezers?

If you can confirm a shipmates status, living or dead, send me the information so it may be shared here. Even though you might not have known that Coastie there are many of us here that would enjoy knowing where some of the 'old crew' went.

Thanks - Lee
